Manic Monday
Today was truly crazy. I had the whole day planned out and everything went up in smoke this morning. Shane was supposed to wake up at 7am, but instead he woke up at 6:15 am and since Wyatt was in our room, he woke Wyatt up then too! You would think that a 5 week old would know when to wake up, but he is clearly not paying attention to the rules! Then I was supposed to exercise with some friends at someone's house this morning, but she had to cancel because somebody was sick. The plan was to let all of the kids play together while the Moms did an exercise video so that we can get in shape before we start training next week with our personal trainer. I also started running again on my treadmill this weekend and I really need to build up my endurance, but I am already back up to 3 miles! Anyways, after the exercise plan fell through and Wyatt was tired from getting up so early the boys were BEYOND hyper and I decided that we needed to go with plan B and get out of the house. I took the boys to Costco to get some o f the things that John couldn't fit into the shopping cart yesterday including a dog bed for Maggie (that the kids loved to ride on it in the cart)! Then we went to "The Choo Choo Store" (Toys R Us) to kill some time and get a new game. I got the boys a new Bingo game that I have been hearing good things about called Zingo. We are going to try it out tomorrow and I will let you know if it is worth it! The afternoon went a lot more smoothly and a friend brought us dinner which was fantastic. I think that I had 16 people bring dinners for us since Shane was born! We forgot how to cook! John told me the other day that he will be in charge of meals from now on...he will make it the night before and I can just put it into the oven the next day! I asked him tonight if he still remembered saying that and he confirmed! I would have had 4 kids a long time ago if it got me out of cooking....who knew!?!?!? Will 5 kids get me out of cleaning? Hmmmmmm......

Grocery Shopping
Wyatt loves to help make grocery lists. He asks us what we need and "writes" it down on his list and then when we go to the store he crosses things out on his "list" as we put it in the cart. Today John took the big boys to Costco and I saw the "list" that Wyatt made before they left. I was surprised at how much his scribbles resembled actual letters and words in a line. He might be ready to start learning how to write more than just "W"...
We watched the Michigan State game today and were thrilled when they made it into the Final Four!

Outside Fun
We spent the morning (and part of the afternoon) with Bethany and Madison hiking and playing at the park. We all had a great time and the kids were pooped by the time we got home! The best part is that we were at the park for over 2 hours and we were the only people there!

Some Simple Truths
1. Now that it is finally warm outside we spend every waking minute possible trying to get the boys good and tired so that they will go to bed at night and sleep for a long, long time.
2. Now that it is finally warm outside, they boys spend every waking minute trying to get back inside the house so that Mom and Dad are good and tired and want to sleep for a long, long time....but actually can't!
3. Locks are a good thing!
4. Costco brownies are SUPER messy...even outside!
5. It is a waste of time to wash our windows (John still tries...poor guy!)
6. Pella windows are not sound proof
7. The blue coupe car still sucks (don't ask me why...I still can't figure it out!)
8. Shane can sleep through anything
9. Rain is a bad thing, but preschool is a good thing!
10. Puking pasta while sitting on the toilet is not what Mom means when she talks about learning to do 2 things at once!

Nature Walk
I took the big boys on a walk on some nature trails in the woods of a local park and they had a blast. My secret weapon was that I gave them each a quart sized zip lock bag to carry things that they collected and they filled them up with acorns, pine cones, and rocks. They each carried their own bags and listened to me too (since I could threaten to take their bags away for not listening)! It was really fun and I wished that I had taken my good camera instead of my cell phone camera since I had so many cute photo opportunities! We are going to start going on nature walks a lot more often!

Some Changes
Shane is starting to change already! He just started getting baby acne on his face and the top layer of skin is peeling off around his eyes and forehead. I am kicking myself right now that I didn't do a photo session of him a couple of days ago so his skin would still be perfect, but I must have been a little busy! Also Shane appears to be loosing the hair from the top of his head...but not the sides yet! I wonder if it is going to come in a different color!?!? I am fairly convinced that he will have light eyes....either green (like Wyatt) or blue (like Jonah) because his eyes don't have that grayish hue that Sammy's did early on that eventually turned brown. His looks are all up in the air again! Who is this boy going to look like? In other news, Wyatt's teacher sent home a note that we have to buy GRADUATION GOWNS for $16 for the kids to wear for their 3 year old preschool graduation! A graduation ceremony for a three year old seems like a little much to me! Is it really that challenging to complete the three year old curriculum these days that we have to hold a big celebration? In any case, we rented a ballroom at the Mariott and are having a graduation party on May 19 for Wyatt. He is registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Toys R Us. Totally kidding!!!! The party is really on May 23! Ok, seriously kidding!!!!

Jackpot
So I have been hesitant to talk about how we hit the jackpot when it came to Shane's sleeping habits because I don't want to jinx myself, but I am in awe! This kid can sleep like a champ. He has been doing a 6 hour stretch at night and he's only 3 weeks old! I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop....

Buttons
Today's theme was belly buttons. This morning when I went to change Shane's diaper, I accidentally got his umbilical stump caught in his diaper and ripped it off! It wasn't completely ready to come off yet either and was a little gooey. I seriously had the willies looking at it, but put alcohol on it all day afterward and it was looking a lot better tonight! (Don't worry Kelly, I saved the stump for you and will put it in the mail tomorrow to add to your collection.)
Tonight at dinner Wyatt put a purple jelly bean in his belly button and it stuck in there perfectly. We could not stop laughing....then he popped it out and ate it! We should have taken a video of that and we could use it someday for blackmail! Too funny!

Bounce U
Kathie and I took all of the boys to a new kids play place that has a ton of indoor inflatable bounce toys to jump in. We met Bethany and Madison there and Bethany got tons of cute pictures of my boys for me! All of the kids were exhausted by the time we left and starving by the time we got home! It was a great outing!

Our Surprise
Shane has turned out to be the most wonderful surprise that I could never have imagined! The pregnancy was a surprise for sure, but his place in our family now seems so perfect and necessary that it had to have been planned. Of course it was planned...just not by us! Shane had the cutest little rolly-polly body with such perfectly delicate features. He makes the most adorable little squeaking sound when he nurses that I am sure wakes John up at night (but I don't think he minds). Shane doesn't like getting his diaper changed and gets mad when he is cold, but his cries are short lived. He doesn't fuss when the boys smother him with WAY TOO MUCH attention and get in his face and pile toys all over his body. I love to smell Shane's sweet little breath and listen to him breathe when I am burping him especially when he turns his face toward mine and cuddles his face up in my neck. He is so special and unique and still full of mystery and unlimited potential that I can hardly remember life without him. Shane is the last link in our family...he completes us... and we couldn't be more surprised...or any happier!
